Another classic that I've always meant to read- I'm in! (Like there would be any question)

Regular old Penguin for me! Great selection for the holiday read (and quite the turn from Flannery).

I’ll be joining you in the regular old Penguin camp. I want those footnotes!

I had several other ideas for a December club this year but they were all grim and masculine and kinda harsh: Dostoyevsky’s “Notes from Underground,” John Williams’s “Augustus,” Orwell’s “Homage to Catalonia”…

All great books, and all of em we should do. But yeah, as you say, what with the bleakness of Flannery, we can’t *also* do the bleakness of Dostoyevsky!! Not at the same time. And a good reading experience is all about timing. I’m glad you like this selection, Alison

Yeah my childhood fave, it made my 6th grade year. That said, every time I attempt a reread life gets epic. I may have to read my OG copy but I cannot make myself underline it so there may be some duality to it.

Ah, Jane… I have been anxious to see how you read in the 2020’s, you made 2006 so very interesting.

Oh cooooool, now I am so excited to read it with you! You read it in 6th grade?! You were precocious. I agree about not writing in OG copies with far-away-ago written-by-us jottings. I have a few books from high school like that. They make me cringe, but they're also time capsules. Now I wanna see yours from 6th grade! That'd be a fun book club activity sometime, maybe for a party or something, to bring our very old marked up books
