Our holiday book club
It's not going to be Dickens this year. It will be a 19th-century novel, though
The author of our FrizzLit holiday book this year is not Charles Dickens, for the first time in years.
The author is English though. Someone who was born four years after Dickens was born.
Any guesses?
This author published their most well-known novel under the name Currer Bell. And that’s the novel we will be reading.
I would not have been able to guess based on this new cover illustration by Ruben Toledo.
Here, let’s zoom out.
That’s right!!
This year, our Monday night book club during the holiday season this year is Jane Eyre.
This Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition of the book has a fancy cover with raised lettering, metallic features, oversized format, and deckled pages.
But if you’re like book-club member Justin who hates deckled pages — that’s okay!
Or maybe you’re like Deborah and you want footnotes for the historical references — which are also missing from the deckled edition.
We are also recommending a cheaper edition without deckled pages and with footnotes, the regular old Penguin Classics edition.
We will be using both editions in the club, and referring to both sets of page numbers — so choose whichever one you like best!
To join the club, just buy a ticket and get a copy of the book.
If you have a different edition you’d prefer to use — or if you’d like to get one from the library — that works too.
The winter months are dark and stormy. We gotta stick together. This club meets for 8 Mondays in a row in November and December.

Another classic that I've always meant to read- I'm in! (Like there would be any question)
Regular old Penguin for me! Great selection for the holiday read (and quite the turn from Flannery).
