Videos of all the FrizzLit classes on the humorist, short story writer, poet, and antifascist

Dorothy Parker’s wit took the world by storm before women had the right to vote.
She loved little dogs.
She wrote “brevity is the soul of lingerie” in a Vogue magazine caption.
And once, famously, while playing a game called Give Me a Sentence, where you drew a word out of a pile and had to use the word in a sentence, she drew the word “horticulture” — and said, without missing a beat, “You can lead a horticulture, but you can’t make her think.”
She’s best remembered for her quickness and sardonic sense of humor.
She’s hardly remembered at all for her antifascism.
She was nominated for an Oscar twice, for her screenwriting.
But she wanted to be remembered for her short stories — so we read mostly short stories in this FrizzLit book club.
We also talked about her intimate friendship with F. Scott Fitzgerald, whom we’re reading next.
