Charles Dickens, splendidly illustrated by Kathryn Rathke

Here is the full video archive of FrizzLit’s Great Expectations book club, which ran November 2023-January 2024.

To see other full recordings of past book clubs — reading Flannery O’Connor, Virginia Woolf, George Eliot, and others — just click on the new Book-club video archives tab.

I’ll be adding the recent Jane Eyre club to the full recordings archive soon!

This is where Great Expectations is set.

Above you can see where Great Expectations is set. You can also see Portsmouth, where Dickens was born.

If you’ve never read Great Expectations and want to dive in, or if you want to reread it and follow along, here’s the reading schedule we used.

The week numbers on the far left — Week 1, Week 2, etc. — correspond with the recordings you will find below.

The full recordings are at the bottom of this post, for paid subscribers only. Thank you for your subscription! You are helping pay the storage fees that keep these recordings available.

Watch the recordings

You can watch the 9 classes below. Each is 1.5 hours long.

Such long videos are huge files, but you don’t need to download anything to watch these, as they are hosted on Zoom’s website. However, Zoom charges me to store these video files on their site. That’s why these recordings are only available to paid subscribers.

If you have a paid subscription, thank you for helping make hosting this video archive possible!

Here are the nine weeks of videos — plus stories and insights about Dickens’s life, his characters, and his writing career. And all of our reactions to the novel as we read it together.

Enjoy!
