What are you reading at our first brunch reading party?
With Paul Matthew Moore live on piano from noon-2 pm Pacific on Sat, Nov 25

For the first time ever, we’re having a brunch Silent Reading Party on Saturday. It’s not easy to get in at noon for brunch anywhere, so everyone who’s got a reservation at the Sorrento is in luck. (The party is sold out except for a barstool or two.)
Our musician Paul is excited to play a daytime party, and several FrizzLit regulars who can’t do Wednesday nights have told me they’re excited they can finally come. Personally, I have been longing for this for years. I love reading over breakfast.
We only have one other brunch party on the schedule, in late December, but if these go well, maybe the Sorrento will let to do more. Fingers crossed!
What are you reading?
I’m getting ready for the Great Expectations book club that starts this coming Thursday, so I may bring that Dickens biography to extract the juicy behind-the-scenes stories about how he wrote and published Great Expectations.
Or maybe I’ll bring Raymond Carver. I want to lead a FrizzLit short story club this spring, and Carver’s stories are calling to me right now. There’s so much to discuss with each of them, even though they’re usually about three pages long.
And you? What are you going to read at this brunch reading party?
How to attend virtually
If you’re not in Seattle — or if you are but didn’t get reservations at the Sorrento — you may still join us from the comfort of home.
We broadcast the live music over Zoom, and the Zoom link will be posted here on this Substack tomorrow morning.
If you are a paid subscriber here, you will have free access that Zoom link.
If you are a free subscriber here, you will have to buy a virtual ticket to join us.

How to show our piano player extra love
Reading party resident musician Paul Matthew Moore will play piano for 2 hours straight, from noon to 2 pm — with a brief pause about 10 minutes in for me to announce literary birthdays of the week.
It’s harder than it looks to play piano for two hours straight. If you would like to express your appreciation for Paul, you can find him on Venmo or Paypal.
His Venmo is paulmatthew-moore (if you need them, the last four digits of his number are 9033).
His Paypal can be found by searching for paulislove@yahoo.com.
Add what you’re reading to the comments!
I get the best ideas about books to read next from reading the comments on these posts.
I have several options - A few of Mick Herron's novellas b/c I am kind of hooked on the Slow Horses MI5 series. And perhaps Roderick Hudson Henry James's first novel. Or Trust the latest Pulitzer Prize winner. Who knows? I'm planning to have a cocktail and decide through the fuzz of alcohol.
Hooray for brunch!! See you there...not sure what I’m bringing to read yet. Maybe the new Zadie Smith that I had to put down because of, cough cough, other books? Or maybe start my annual re-read of A Christmas Carol?
