I can’t believe I didn’t know — until you brought it up (thank god for you) — that Ted Hughes didn’t translate from the Latin. If I had known that, I don’t know if I would have chosen the book! Though I guess that’s why it’s simpler and more fluid. He just read the other translations and … wrote whatever he wanted?

that sounds about right. If you give me a couple of minutes tomorrow I will tell about the last research project I did as a professor - it was poetry translation with more or less monolingual kids. I'm so bummed that I won't make it tonight to Sylvia and Courtland's fiesta. But I cannot keep awake much past 6 or 6:30. Seems rude to go over for dinner than fall asleep.
