Guest musicians at upcoming reading parties
Chris Jeffries, Shawn Schlogel, and Worker Sam make guest appearances this January
There is no reading party tonight. But if you’re looking for something to do a week from tonight, there are a couple seats left at the January 8 party.
Paul Matthew Moore will be playing the January 8 party, as well as all the other Wednesday night parties in January and February.
But for the Sunday afternoon parties that the Sorrento is letting us add to the calendar for mid-winter — after all, January is peak reading-party weather — we will be inviting in guest musicians to play the party.
January 12 guest musician
Worker Sam will play the January 12 party, which is already sold out.
Worker Sam is a cellist, songwriter, and session musician who uses loop pedals to layer intricate cello arrangements and create improvised compositions.
They used to play the party before Paul Matthew Moore became the party’s resident musician.
This will be a total treat, and a flashback to reading party’s own history.
Did anyone is who reading attend any of those parties where Worker Sam showed off their magic with the cello and loop pedal? I distinctly remember Dan Savage coming to one of those parties and being amazed by Worker Sam’s brilliance.
January 19 guest musician
Shawn Schlogel will play the Sunday, January 19 party from 3-5 pm.
There are really good seats still available, including loveseats and tables, because we only recently added this party to the calendar. (Nab ’em while you can!)
Shawn has over 15 years of experience as a professional musician. He takes pride in creating the right ambiance while bringing a warm and engaging presence to the party.
He has played the party a few times in 2024, and he’s delightful.
January 26 guest musician
Chris Jeffries is playing the Sunday, January 26 party from 3-5 pm. This party is mostly sold out but there are some seats still available.
Chris is a composer and writer who has written the music and lyrics for many musicals — and often tells stories of a literary bent.
His musical based on Jane Austen’s Persuasion premiered at Taproot Theatre after being workshopped at The 5th Avenue’s NextFest. He has written the book, music, and lyrics for such musicals as Vera Wilde (Winner of 4 SFBATCC awards), Moon of My Delight (Empty Space), The Glory Booty Club (Garland Award), I See London, I See France and The Fatty Arbuckle Spook HouseRevue (Annex Theatre, Yale School of Drama).
He moonlights as the ever-silent accompanist/arranger for internationally disclaimed chanteuse Dina Martina.
