A free event with Becky Ellis on April 13
I'm organizing a Q&A and reading at the Sorrento with FrizzLit book club's Becky Ellis, memoirist of "Little Avalanches" — Saturday, 3 pm, free
If you were in the recent Great Expectations book club, you know Becky Ellis.
She made the insightful comment about reversals on our first day, a comment we kept returning to over the course of that Dickens adventure.
So you know how good she is at talking about writing.
But did you know she’s the daughter of a highly decorated World War II combat sergeant? On the eve of her father’s 90th birthday, he broke his 70-year silence — finally telling his story to the daughter who grew up in the shadow of his PTSD.
Little Avalanches is the book she wrote about it.
Little Avalanches will be on sale at this reading and Q&A on Saturday, April 13, at 3 pm in the Fireside Room at the Sorrento, thanks to our event partner Elliott Bay Book Company.
This reading and conversation (like the recent one with Sheila Heti) takes place after a brunch Silent Reading Party from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm (which is sold out).
Free music at 2:30 — come early!
Through a special arrangement with our reading party musician, Paul Matthew Moore will play piano for an extra half an hour — free live music from 2:30 to 3 pm — in the Fireside Room, as reading party attendees leave (or, even better, stick around) and Becky’s fans show up.
Reading at 3 pm
This Little Avalanches reading and conversation goes until 4 pm.
No ticket or reservations required. Free. Note: This event is 21+ because there’s a bar in the room.
If you’re feeling peckish after the reading and discussion, here’s a tip: the Aperitivo at STELLA., just across the hall, starts at 4 pm.
Come hang out with your FrizzLit friends, hear Becky read from her book, and bring your questions and observations.
And — why not? — bring any more thoughts you’ve had about Great Expectations, too.
Saturday, April 13, 2:30 pm live piano music, 3 pm reading & conversation with Becky Ellis, author of "Little Avalanches."
Hosted by Christopher Frizzelle in the Fireside Room of Hotel Sorrento, 900 Madison St, Seattle.
Onsite book sales by Elliott Bay Book Company.
