No reading party tonight
Paul and I have the night off. Plus: an announcement! A sneak peek of our next club.
Wow, AI is terrifying. I asked Substack’s image-generation tool for a mahogany-lined room with a fireplace and piano and a sign that says “no party tonight” to go with this reminder that there’s no party tonight — and it gave me THIS!
What the. The hauntedness. The presumption! Does it think there’s no party because everyone died? Did it not see the letters I typed in quotes in the order I had typed them? Those dripping, mangled words? Is that a misspelled “terror” between “NO PARTY” and “TONIGHT”? And what’s on the carpet? “A PRIVY TO WAGER”? GAH!!
Anyway, it’s the first Wednesday in recent memory that we haven’t had a virtual or in-person party. (But it’s not because everyone died.) I’m out of town and Paul has the night off.
We’ll be back for Saturday’s brunch reading party — both in-person and virtual — at 12:30 pm Pacific.
Paid subscribers here on Substack will get free access to the two hours of live music to read to, 12:30-2:30 pm this Saturday. The in-person party on Saturday is sold out. (By the way, in-person parties in early June just went on sale for unpaid subscribers. Those have not yet been made available to the general public at SilentReadingParty.com, but they will be next week.)
As for tonight, may I suggest staying home and reading to some piano sonatas by Mozart? The next FrizzLit club is going to be a music club, and we’re going to do 8 weeks on the life and works of Mozart. No reading assignments. Just listening to music and hearing about the mind that made it.
It will be led by FrizzLit’s classical music maestro Chris Lydgate, on Monday nights at 6 pm in May and June. (Ticket page coming soon.) I have started listening to Mozart piano sonatas lately to get ready. And book club’s own Kathryn Rathke made this stunning portrait. Look!!
I'd say sign me up for haunted Silent Reading Party with all the death days mentioned, but those chairs do NOT look like they'd be comfortable for two hours. AI SRP is definitely cursed.
Can't wait for Music Club!
